Overview

The Equine Managment Associate of Applied Science is designed to be a pathway for students that want to gain knowledge of the Equine Industry, perhaps secure an entry level job, and then transition to the B.A.A.S. in Organizational Leadership. The first year works in conjunction with the Equine Production and Management Certificate, the second year prepares students with a combination of CORE classes, Agricultural courses and Business curriculum to prepare students for the transition to the Bachelors of Applied Arts and Science in Organizational Leadership. Students wishing to pursue a transfer degree in Equine or Animal Science at a 4 year university are encouraged to pursue the General Studies A.A. and complete the AGRI classes recommended by an advisor.

Career Options

Local demand for entry level equine positions is strong. Currently, grooms, feeding crews, retail outlets and equine veterinary assistants are in high demand. Other potential opportunities lie with trainers, breeding farms and boarding facilities. Continuing past the Equine Management Certificate through the B.A.A.S. in Organizational Leadership, will strengthen the employability of these students especially when interested in mid-management positions within retail, office management, or supporting industry partners.

Annually, about 50% of the graduates of the Equine Production and Management Certificate will find jobs within the industry. The balance of those students will choose to pursue additional education in an associate degree such as this, or completing CORE work to transfer to a 4 year university.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics
the median annual wage in 2022 for those with an Agriculture degree was
$55,000

The Weatherford College Equine Production and Management Certificate allowed me to gain valuable skills while staying close to home and keeping my job. The program smoothly transitions into an A.A.S. degree, and from there, I hope to easily move into a B.A.A.S. in Organizational Leadership. It's the perfect way to earn a four-year degree without having to leave your community.
