WC ag students shine at TJCAA Convention
Weatherford College students brought home multiple awards from the Texas Junior College Agricultural Association Convention, held earlier this month at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
Eighteen students from Weatherford College attended the annual convention, which brings together agricultural colleges to discuss educational matters. WC agriculture program director Vance Christie concluded his term as president of the TJCAA during the event.
The convention included various activities, including a social, competitions and tours. However, the highlight for Weatherford College was the awards banquet, where the following students received recognition for their achievements:
- Makenzie Bowman: first place in equine science, fourth place in entomology
- Mary Karen Oneil: first place in wildlife first place in entomology
- Kaia Burt: third place in equine science
- Kendall Mitchell: third place in ag economics
- Anthony Galasso: fourth place in equine science, fourth place in ag mechanics
- Ty Reed: third place in horticulture
The Weatherford College Agricultural Chapter also earned second place in the outstanding chapter category and third place in sweepstakes.
Christie was also recognized for his year of service as president of the TJCAA.
In addition to the awards, students participated in quizzes, speaking events, mock job interviews and toured facilities such as the National Natural Toxins Research Center, the King Ranch and the Texas State Aquarium.
