Two Worlds, One Sound piano concert set for Jan. 27
Weatherford College’s Hyeyoung Song and Russian pianist Eleonora Karpukhova will perform “Two Worlds, One Sound,” on Monday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Alkek Fine Arts Center. Admission is free.
This unique concert will showcase the musical talents of these accomplished pianists as they perform in tandem on two Steinway grand pianos. The program will feature a blend of American and Russian compositions, including works by Amy Beach, Samuel Barber and Sergei Rachmaninoff.
“I am pleased to collaborate with Eleonora on this piano duo program,” Song said. “Music transcends time, space and all the barriers that divide humankind. It is the most powerful tool for human interaction, shared emotion and a deeper connection to humanity.”
Karpukhova, professor of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, has served as a panel judge for the WC International Piano Competition twice, but has never met Song in person.
“After spending several evenings chatting with her online, I feel like we’ve known each other for a long time,” she said. “Her incredible energy, warmth, charm and ease in conversation make me want to be good friends. And thanks to Dr. Song, I’ll be experiencing Texas for the first time.”
