Pianist Evan Mitchell to perform “Reflections” at WC
Weatherford College welcomes pianist Evan Mitchell on Friday, Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alkek Fine Arts Center, where he will perform “Reflections,” a recital of solo piano works by Florence Price, Johannes Brahms, Missy Mazzoli, Claude Debussy and Franz Schubert.
The concert is free to the public, and doors open at 7 p.m.
“The concert features music that explores this theme both literally – the evening begins with Price’s ‘Lake Mirror’ – and figuratively, with several works reflecting the music of another composer, both implicitly and explicitly,” said Dr. Hyeyoung Song, WC’s artist in residence. “With selections dating from the 1820s through the 2010s, ranging from canonical masterpieces to underplayed gems, ‘Reflections’ is sure to captivate.”
Mitchell’s recent highlights include solo performances on the prestigious Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts series in Chicago, at the Merkin Concert Hall in New York City and several major venues in Shanghai.
He also performed with the Fort Worth and Dallas symphony orchestras and alongside such significant figures as double bassist Gary Karr, flutists Leone Buyse and Jim Walker, and clarinetist Corrado Giuffredi.
From 2014 to 2022, he was a featured artist on the TCA Texas Touring Roster, and over the past ten years, he has given more than 350 performances for Cliburn in the Classroom. Mitchell has performed recitals and conducted masterclasses at Radford University, Southwestern University, Texas Woman’s University, the University of Memphis, Virginia Tech, and many others.
He currently serves as an assistant professor of piano at the University of Florida School of Music. He has served on the faculty of Tarrant County College, as president of the Fort Worth Music Teachers Association, and in 2021 was inducted into the Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame.
